Tottenham’s first summer signing could well be Inter Milan winger Antonio Candreva but they will face competition from Chelsea to secure the deal.
Candreva has spent his whole career in Italy, with Inter being the latest team he’s turned out for after a €22m transfer last summer from Lazio. A figure of €27.5m is believed high enough to move him away from the San Siro and according to The Daily Star, Chelsea are hoping £25m is enough.
With Tottenham offloading Kyle Walker to Manchester City, they will be looking for cover should Kieran Trippier get injured. Although Candreva is a winger, if Mauricio Pochettino was to play with wing backs he could play on the far right hand side of the midfield. This is a position he is no stranger to after having successfully demonstrated it at international level.
His ability to play in this position could explain why Antonio Conte is seeking his service. A possible alternative is Alex Sandro for Conte but he is looking increasingly more likely to sign a contract extension at Juventus.
Candreva is now 30 and has three years left on his current contract, after being involved in 17 goals last season Inter’s apparent asking price does not seem too steep in the current climate.
