Figo tells Inter to keep Mauro Icardi

Before the match between Inter and AS Roma which is expected to be a great match on Sunday 21. of January according to Williamhill, former Inter player Luis Figo spoke about transfer news regarding Inter, especially Icardi and Joao Mario who might leave.

Luis Figo has told his former club Inter not to sell Mauro Icardi to Real Madrid – another former club. He was asked to share his thoughts regarding the interest of Real for the Inter star.

“Icardi to Madrid? It’s clear that it wouldn’t be good for Inter or Italian football to lose big players.” said the former Portugal winger to Corriere della Sera.

“But clubs have their own policies and projects, so Inter will make their own decisions.”

Icardi, who is also the captain of Inter has scored 18 goals this season in 20 matches, scoring more than any Real Madrid player, whose current top scorers are all tied with four goals each.

45-year-old Figo who won four times Serie A with Inter also commented on Inter’s chances in Serie A this season.

“Scudetto? I hope Inter win it. Juventus and Napoli are strong, and I hope to see a three-way battle, with Inter in the running for the Scudetto.”

“My years at Inter were terrific. After Real Madrid, I had the chance to play at a high level again.”

“When I arrived, Inter had started winning again and it was great, as was my relationship with the fans. Milan will always be a happy memory for me.”

Figo also backed up his countrymen Joao Mario, who also plays for Inter.

Joao Mario has been in poor form ever since he came and is expected to leave Inter this month.

“Big teams make strong movements because they have quality players.” he said for Corriere della Sera.

“Inter is a historical team and, if they’re doing well then Italian football benefits.”

“Joao Mario? He is still young, and when you change country, teams and style of play, it takes time.”

“He’s excellent player who haven’t managed to adapt to Italian football yet. Adapting is much easier when things are going well.”

“Inter are fine now, and I hope this helps Joao Mario.”

Luís Filipe Madeira Caeiro Figo is a retired Portuguese footballer. He played as a winger for Sporting CP, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF and FC Internazionale before retiring on 31.05.2009.

Figo left Real Madrid to join Inter in 2005. as a free agent after his contract with Real expired.
