Picking the Best Potential Inter Lineup to Play Torino on Sunday

Internazionale host Torino on Sunday looking to bounce back from their disappointing opening day defeat to Sassuolo last weekend.

Several key faces could be set for a return to Luciano Spalletti’s starting XI for the match, which will hopefully be enough to give the Nerazzurri the edge over this week’s opponents.

Here is a look at how Inter might line up against Torino.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Samir Handanovic (GK) – Now the longest-serving player in this Inter side, Slovenian goalkeeper Handanovic is certain to start against Torino.

Dalbert (LB) – This one could be a toss-up between Dalbert and Kwadwo Asamoah as Spalletti looks to accomodate the returning Ivan Perisic further up the left flank – however, as the more natural left-back, Dalbert seems like the obvious choice.

Milan Skriniar (CB) – A major boost for Inter is the return of Slovakian centre-half Milan Skriniar, who was a standout performer for the Nerazzurri last season and was linked with a move away throughout the summer. His return from injury will doubtless help to tighten up the Inter back line.

Stefan de Vrij (CB) – With Miranda the more likely of Inter’s centre-backs to drop to the bench for Skriniar, new signing de Vrij will probably keep his place against Torino.

Sime Vrsaljko (RB) – Another potential player to return to the starting XI, Croatian World Cup star Vrsaljko could be a major boost to Spalletti’s side if he starts on Sunday.

2. Midfielders

Marcelo Brozovic (DM) – Brozovic’s stock is higher than ever following his World Cup exploits with Croatia and the 25-year-old midfield general is as close to a guaranteed starter as anybody in this Inter side.

Radja Nainggolan (CM) – The summer signing from Roma was unavailable to face Sassuolo but would provide a major boost to Inter’s chance of victory with his combative midfield performance and creative ability if he plays in this one.

Ivan Perisic (LM) – The last of Inter’s Croatian contingent, Perisic came off the bench last week but should now be available to start for the first time this season. As one of the key men in Spalletti’s attacking setup, this could be the most important return of all for Inter.

Lautaro Martinez (AM) – Though primarily a striker, 21-year-old Lautaro Martinez is likely to spend much of this season dropping deeper to play as a number 10 and link the midfield with striker Mauro Icardi.

Matteo Politano (RM) – Signed on loan from Sassuolo with an option to buy next summer, 25-year-old Italy international Politano made his debut against his parent club last week and should keep his place this time out.

3. Striker

Mauro Icardi (ST) – Icardi had a bad day at the office against Sassuolo last week but he is still one of the most prolific strikers in Italian football and Inter’s captain will be keen to bounce back with a goal or two against Torino.
