Conte: ‘Inter showed desire to win’

Antonio Conte says Inter showed desire to win against Verona and insists he hasn’t demanded new signings in January.

The Nerazzurri won their seventh Serie A game in a row against Hellas Verona today.

“We won against a strong team, praise to [Ivan] Juric for what he’s being doing. Today we showed we wanted to win at all costs,” Conte told Sky Sport.

The Italian tactician believes Inter’s Champions League elimination is till hurting.

“The wound is still there and it must burn, for me, for the players and the club,” he said.

Is he worried about Milan’s winning streak?

“We need to think about ourselves, it’s a balanced season, it’s going to be a tough and even campaign.”

Does he want new signings in January?

“I’m not asking anything, I need to make assessments. The ownership and the club make decisions, based on our possibilities. Most of times we share the same vision,” he replied.

Beppe Marotta said before the game Christian Eriksen is on Inter’s transfer list.

“I don’t know if we need to sell before buying, it’s something happens everywhere, not only at Inter. I repeat, we’ll make our assessments, we have the same vision. This summer we couldn’t do a lot. I am proud of these players, we proved we can do well.

“We’ll need to fight to win. That’s the history of this club, but only one team wins.

“It’s important to stay up there, this was our seventh win in a row in Serie A.

“We need to continue like this, but the season is difficult, even more than the last one. You can lose points against anyone. We need to remain focused all the times. Today we proved we wanted to win, we showed great determination.

“It’s fair not to give [Romelu] Lukaku too many responsibilities, everyone has. Today he was important and I am happy for Lautaro because when strikers don’t score for long time, they become nervous, but he played a good game today.

“Now we can rest a little bit. We didn’t have holidays in the summer.”
