Simone Inzaghi sees qualifying for the Champions League as ‘a Scudetto for Lazio,’ and is expecting an ‘intense’ trip to Inter.
It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT, click here for a match preview.
“It’s going to be a very important match against Inter. We know our current form, we know our opponents, we know that we need determination and stamina,” said Inzaghi in his press conference.
“Our big objective for the season was to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 and we achieved that. Now we want to make sure we’ll be in this tournament again next season. That would be like a Scudetto for us.”
Inter have loftier ambitions in Serie A, especially after crashing out of the Champions League and Coppa Italia.
“They are a great team, the favourites alongside Juventus to win the Scudetto, even though Milan are also doing well. I expect them to be fired up after their Coppa Italia elimination in the semi-final.
“I am concentrated on the motivation for my own team, as we must be humble. I knew that once we got more players back from injury, we’d have our say, and that’s what is happening. We’ll go to Milan aiming for a very strong performance.”
Luiz Felipe is out following ankle surgery, but although Patric returns from suspension, Mateo Musacchio is still likely to start in defence.
“Musacchio has gone beyond all expectations, as he hadn’t played for a while at Milan, but immediately settled into a squad that has been working together for years,” continued Inzaghi.
“Thomas Strakosha is also still out, while Stefan Radu had a slight problem yesterday and we’re not optimistic.
“Many elements will be important tomorrow, including set plays and the midfields. It’ll be a match of great intensity.”
