Marco Materazzi believes Antonio Conte is becoming ‘a true interista’ and comments on the coach’s clash with Andrea Agnelli: ‘We like the noise of the enemies.’
Inter have leapfrogged Milan on top of the Serie A table and are set to face the Rossoneri in the Derby della Madonnina next weekend.
“Inter deserve to be Serie A leaders, this team has been built for the Scudetto,” Materazzi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
What did he make of Conte’s clash with Andrea Agnelli?
“I think Conte is becoming an interista. He apologised for his gesture, but he insisted he had been provoked. Admitting a mistakes is a very nice thing. We are Inter and we are used to the noise of enemies. It makes everything much more beautiful and special.”
“The noise of enemies” is an expression used by José Mourinho when he was in charge of the Nerazzurri.
“I don’t want to compare him and Conte, but in some ways they are similar,” Materazzi claimed.
“They are similar for how they live the games and for how the take the best out of their footballers. Even if they prepare the matches differently. Conte is becoming an interista, that’s how I explain last night’s celebration. And I am really enjoying it.”
The Italy World Cup winner had his say on Inter’s midfield too.
“Eriksen has incredible qualities. I think he’s perfect to play along with Brozovic even if my idol remains Barella.”
Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will meet again next weekend.
“Ibra is always scary and at the end of the day he is God…The spat with Lukaku is a problem between them, I have my own idea, but I keep it to myself. I can only say Romelu is a good giant. I hope there are no aftermath. But surely neither of them will hold back. And that’s right.”
