Romelu Lukaku made Milan Derby history with his run from midfield and Lautaro Martinez bagged a brace, but Samir Handanovic’s saves were just as decisive.
This was not just a Derby della Madonnina, but also a head-to-head at the top of the table with just one point separating them.
It took under five minutes to break through with Lukaku floating in the cross for Lautaro Martinez’s header.
Handanovic required three world class saves in quick succession to deny Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sandro Tonali an equaliser for Milan.
Instead, Inter struck on the counter with a well-worked team move, competed by the Argentina international.
Lukaku then made history as the first man since the 1970s to score in four consecutive Milan Derbies, starting his run from the centre-circle.
